Scope and content
[On mourning paper for 8 Grosvenor Crescent, S. W.]:- Thanks his mother for the money, hamper, and letter. Gave 'half the cake and 1 tongue' to Charlie, as well as one pair of trousers, the hat, and a sovereign. The money will last Robert a while, as he has 'learnt economy during the last fortnight'. He only came fifth [in the form] today, as he had anticipated; will work hard this fortnight and thinks he might well be first, as he will 'not lose minus marks' as he did when head of the form'; he came first in the questions answered this week. They have to give in their 'fair-copy-note-books' on Wednesday.
Hopes the elections will not be 'too much' for his father. Went for a walk with Charlie this afternoon; he was first this fortnight. Is sorry they cannot go home on Thursday, but supposes it is not allowed. Hopes G[eorge] is well.
