Scope and content
[On headed notepaper for Wallington, Cambo, Northumberland]:- There is 'not much to say', as he saw her so recently. His food arrived, and he now 'live[s] in great abundance, without eggs'. There is a paper-chase on Thursday, in which he will be 'hare', but he 'will be caught rather than over-run' himself. Is continuing reading for the scholarships, which will be in about a fortnight. Charlie is 'flourishing'. Shaved himself yesterday, and 'only cut [himself] twice, which is not bad for a beginner'. If the books he sent for from Wallington arrive, he does not need them at school: 'they are only for the holidays'.
