The Shiffolds, Holmbury St. Mary, Dorking. - Thanks his mother for her letter, and her 'kind' invitation to Welcombe; would have 'much liked to come' if he were staying in England. Was going to stay at a farm near Lulworth Cove with [Goldsworthy Lowes] Dickinson and a few other friends, but now it seems the farm is unavailable until much later. Has also had an invitation to stay for a few weeks with the Berensons at Settignano, near Florence, so has decided to go there 'after seeing Bessie and Julian off on Friday'. Would have gone with them [to the Netherlands] for a few days, but it is 'so difficult' to get from there to Italy that it is 'not worthwhile' since he would need to get a Belgian, Swiss and Dutch visa as well as a French and Italian one. Has 'not been to Italy for seven years', and hopes to do a lot of writing while there.
He and Bessie saw Charles last week in town; he seems to have had a 'very interesting time, and to be none the worse'. Julian is well, and 'much looking forward to his travels'; he has 'learnt a little Dutch from Miss Geyl'. Sends love to his mother.
