On headed notepaper for the Harrow Philathletic Club, with 'The Grove' added in Robert Trevelyan's hand:- Hopes his mother is 'still improving as she was yesterday'; will write to her as well today. Thinks that it might be from their Torpid match that she got ill, which was 'hardly worthy to cause so much trouble'.
Georgie is doing well, and has 'kept his second place'; he has 'no trials' this term so is sure to finish in a high position. Robert's own exam has begun, being 'earlier for some reason this year'; he has done well in the unseen papers so far, and 'fairly, but not so well' in the composition papers. Does not mean to 'go in for running to any violent extent', and will not do any until the examinations are over.
His father 'must be very busy' since his mother became ill; cannot remember whether Charlie will be home [from Cambridge] yet. Is writing to Charlie, and will ask him to visit for an afternoon, but 'he must not come if he is looking after Mama'.
Sees that his father was right in what he said in his 'first letter'; has followed his advice since and will do in the future, though he does sometimes, as his father says, need 'to put a force on' himself.
