Wallington, Cambo, Morpeth. - Robert's letters from the [Suez] Canal arrived this evening; has been very interested to read about the voyage, since he made almost the same journey; describes the few differences. Robert's route is preferable in one respect: he himself travelled to Calcutta and was a little disappointed after Cairo, which 'delighted [him] as an Oriental town, full of colour'; saw nothing to rival it until he went to Delhi, and was told there that Lahore was 'even more Oriental'; Robert is going there at the beginning of his time in India. He and Caroline are having a 'very pleasant time' with Elizabeth and Julian, who 'acts as a sort of chorus to human affairs'. Is rather uneasy about Charles's health, since he is travelling down to London and back each week. Sends an account of the ceremony at Stratford, which was a 'very friendly affair, in the best of taste' and a 'gratifying testimony' to the way in which they, particularly Caroline, are regarded by their neighbours.
