Wallington, Cambo, Morpeth. - The move [from Welcombe to Wallington] has gone 'quietly and quickly': Robert's mother and Booa [Mary Prestwich] came from the Park [home of Caroline's sister Anna Maria Philips] yesterday; Sir George spent the night in Newcastle, attended to some business in the morning and motored to Wallington for lunch. Found Robert's poem ["The Foolishness of Solomon"] and has read the first canto; after discovering from some research that '"Balki" was the traditional name of the Queen of Sheba' has been wondering how much 'tradition, or extra Biblical history' there is in the poem, and whether Mu Wang is a 'received Chinese personage'. The drought here is 'getting very serious', and will add to individual and public financial difficulties. He and Caroline had 'for old people like us, a very great deal' to do at Welcombe, and further afield for Sir George; is glad they 'spent so much time there', but it was 'full time' for them to get back to Wallington. Sends love to Robert's family.
