Scope and content

Hôtel Bellevue, Bad Nauheim, Germany. - Apologises for bothering Bessie about Donald [Tovey]'s clothes [see 8/57] but it is not true that 'he can with impunity go about looking absurd and grubby'. Arrangements for a tonic Donald should take twice a day; fruit does not suit him; asks if the maid can make sure he 'does not wear the same underwear two days running'. She and Annie [her maid] were 'horrified' to find how many clean things he brought back from East Grinstead last week. Entreats Bessie to let them have his laundry bills. Wishes she had had a letter from him. His Spanish trip fills her 'with absolute terror'. Has begun her baths at Nauheim; is sending a picture book for Julian. Hopes Ariadne ["The Bride of Dionysus"] is 'growing up well'.
