Scope and content

Welcombe, Stratford on Avon. - Likes to think of Elizabeth comfortably settled in London [at Grosvenor Crescent]; hopes to see her and Julian there some day. She can do as she like with the cupboards, except for the shelves near the door containing small maps and guide-books which had better be left; he plans to re-arrange everything when they return after Easter and he has finished his book [the final volume of "The American Revolution"]. Caroline would not have been well enough for London life; glad that at Welcombe she is 'in natural and unforced retirement'.
