Biographical history
Born 19 March, 1880 in London, second son of William Henry Gurney, barrister and shorthand writer to the Houses of Parliament. Attended St. Paul's, and matriculated at Trinity College Michaelmas 1898, earning the B.A. in 1901, LL.B. in 1902, and M.A. in 1910. Called to the Bar Lincoln's Inn, 1905. Married Helen Woollgar de Gaudrion Verrall. Psychical researcher, author of a history of the Society for Psychical Research, of which he was president 1947-1948.

Archival history
A note by J. R. G. Bradfield on the original enclosure, 28 Dec. 1956, records that 'This packet came through the Christmas mails and all the seals were broken when it was received; but the white label bearing Mr Salter's signature was intact'. Trinity seals were affixed, and the enclosure was kept closed as per instructions until 1996.
