Headed notepaper for the Liberal Party at the Elland by-election, 14, Church Street, Halifax. - Thanks Bob for his letter: did not 'think [Bob] "had a bad conscience"', nor did he think him an '"irritable companion" for more than one minute in a thousand'. Tells him to leave the Tauchnitz at Taormina, as it is 'a present forced on me by "my Lady"' which he has not read. Berenson was not in Rome, but George has had a nice letter from him from Florence. Sorry Bob has had to pay charges on his letters. Publication of his book ["England in the Age of Wycliffe"] has been delayed. The by-election is "great fun and going very well"; Charles is an "excellent" candidate: 'it is his real metier"; George feels an enthusiasm for his policy and general attitude to politics which he 'had ceased to feel for the Newcastle programme Liberalism'.
